The first time I started up the engine of my freshly bought ship, which must have been in 1992, it wasn't just a cold, tinkling mechanical box that I heard. This was pure music.
I was way into percussion at that time and I spent hours in the engine room, listening and singing along with the beautiful heartbeat of this ship which has become my home for many years.
For the connoisseur: the engine is an old Humboldt-Deutz RV6M345 built in 1941, probably one of the last of its kind that is still running.
This engine has got soul and the good thing about it, is that you can feel it's smooth vibration through the whole ship.
